Wildfire-Ready Homes,
Financed and Verified

From risk to resilience, all in one place.

Wildfire risk is reshaping the homeowners insurance market across the West.

Pressure is Mounting

In states like California, Colorado, Nevada, and Utah, insurers are withdrawing from wildfire-exposed areas, leaving millions of homeowners with cancelled policies or expensive premiums, with downstream effects on home sales, mortgage lending, and local government revenue.

Costly, and Hard to Navigate for Homeowners

In response, insurers and regulators are increasingly requiring homeowners to complete wildfire mitigation work, such as vegetation management, as a condition of coverage. This work can meaningfully reduce a home's risk of destruction, but it typically costs many thousands of dollars, an amount most homeowners cannot readily afford. Even those who can afford it often don't know what work actually qualifies, how to find a qualified contractor, or how to prove it was done correctly with their insurance company.

Sagebreak unlocks this interconnected problem.

We are a platform that enables homeowners to understand their risk, find local contractors, finance the work, and verify the work was done correctly, protecting their homes and putting them in a better position to preserve their access to insurance.

Sagebreak Resilience

Wildfire-Ready Homes, Financed and Verified

Sage is one of the defining plants of the Western landscape: drought-tolerant, deep-rooted, built for an arid climate.

It thrives in the harsh, desert conditions that we call home. A firebreak, floodbreak, or windbreak is a barrier engineered to stop destruction in its tracks. A break is the line between loss and protection.

Together, the name captures what we're trying to build: resilience that is native to the West, and infrastructure that creates a real barrier between climate risk and the people, homes, and communities in its path.

OUR STORY

In the summer of 2021, Bethany's family was evacuated from their Utah home during a wildfire.

The fire passed, and what followed was a realization that the systems meant to provide a financial safety net to families and communities had few tools to reward and mitigate risk at scale.

Bethany had spent the previous decade working at the intersection of climate finance, inclusive fintech, and lending operations in pay-as-you-go solar and other climate fintech models across Africa and Latin America, leadership at a climate resilience equity fund, and then as COO of Utah's nonprofit green bank.

Your Path to a Wildfire-Ready Home

Your one stop for wildfire mitigation.

For many homeowners, increasing wildfire risk means higher premiums, non-renewals, or new requirements from insurers or your local government to complete mitigation work. While it can meaningfully reduce your risk, it's confusing to navigate and expensive to implement.

Sagebreak helps you through the whole process.

We help you understand your risk, afford the work with financing, get it done by a vetted contractor, and get the proof you need to bring to your insurance company to negotiate coverage.

How It Works

01

Understand your risk.

We'll walk you through a risk assessment to understand your property's wildfire risk and what mitigation work would help most.

02

Get connected to a contractor.

Already have someone in mind? We can work with them directly. If not, choose from our list of vetted contractors, and we'll help you get a quote for the work.

03

Apply for financing.

Once you have a quote, you'll apply for financing through one of our lending partners. Right now, financing is only available to homeowners in Nevada.

04

We verify the work.

Once the work is done, we confirm it was completed correctly. You'll receive a report documenting the completed work that you can bring to your insurance company. We can connect you with local agents or brokers who can help you look for coverage.
